Not on the high street

Just to update you this December we are launching a few designs on Not on the high street.com a new online shop dedicated to unusual designs that you cant get just any where, my work should go live tomorrow 23rd of November but here are a few sneaky peeks at what we hope to sell......

Confessions...

In case you were imagining that have been slaving over my eyelet press and sewing machine I must confess that all the new ideas that I have been posting lately are ideas that have been started and shelved for a while. After all as a mother of 4, and a home teacher (not to mention Doc Martin being on again!) sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day to experiment with new Sewing ideas when I need to keep on top of all the other jobs, but I am proud to announce (now the rail has finally arrived!!!!) my new shutter curtain. I planned this as a more masculine alternative to curtains also for windows that don't have much space at the sides for curtains, the fabric is stiffened and sewn into folds so that it pleats, I thought it might also look nice with a fabric covered spring batten, or if full length maybe from a curtain pole fixed to the top of the window inside the recess- but here I had a wardrobe rail made to size. Let me know what you think..........

I Spy with my little eyelet!

I have really got into eyelets on everything recently since I got an eyelet punch for curtain heading, so I thought I'd try eyelets on a blind, at first I thought of using medium sized ones with chunky rope as a decoration, but then I thought how about smaller ones in pairs across the front,to raise the blind- here's the prototype. I think silver eyelets would be more popular, though....

Something more to add

We get asked for all sorts of things and recently we are being asked for dining chair covers so here's the plans.......watch this space for the end results!

Heres a basic design in white cotton to give us a pattern to work from.....

Decorex 2007 23rd September

I adore fabrics, they are to me what shoes are to some women, iresistable! I already have too many to choose from but I couldn't resist visiting Decorex 30 this year at the Royal Chelsea Hospital, each stand was like a photo shoot for a top design magazine- unfortuneatly photos were banned! There were some really lovely fabrics and designs my favourites included Busby and Busby's beautiful embroidered silk. Kate Forman's delicate romantic Linens also the classy light pulls and braid of New House textiles and much more!

Sept 6th 2007

Just to introduce myself & everyone, My name is Phillippa Meadows, known as Zia (its italian for Aunty! Not very exotic really) I started selling pretty bunting etc on Ebay a few years ago as a little hobby, it went well but there were so many people doing it and there were so many other things people were asking for, custom made duvets, made to measure curtains and most of all roman blinds. When I was a teenager my mother worked from home as a curtain maker but the work got too much for her, as not only do you have to spend hours sewing you need to visit customers too, so I used all my powers of persuasion and convinced her to leave the customers to me and promised I would leave her to do what she has a real talent for...the hard work! So I search for fabrics we could use and products we can sell and she transforms them into reality. I must admit my whole life I have been looking for a niche for my talents and always wished it would be in making things, but found myself a little too lazy, and I've always started another 4 projects before finishing the first & also am very keen to shop for lovely things I dont need- and now at least i can put these habits to good use. I get to find lovely dreamy fabrics and have a huge notebook full of ideas for new products to come, maybe vintage style floral feather quilts inspire by my sis in laws blog or maybe my new eyelet rope blinds, soon to come. Or eyelet cushions, folding shutter curtains with eyelets (can you guess I have a new eyelet punch?) But I also have some great ideas for tie backs. But I digress, if you want to see them I'd better get sewing not talking, see you soon, Zia
